Faga Wins 10K; Track & Field in Top-10 After Nationals Opening Day

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's track and field programs are both sitting inside the top-10 following day one of the NJCAA Division III Track and Field Championships on Thursday afternoon at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY.
The men's program is currently in fifth place after accumulating 17 total points on day one. The scoring was highlighted by Samuel Faga, who claimed the individual national championship title in the men's 10,000m event. Faga won the event with a final time of and grabbed 10 team points for his championship performance.
Dylan Izzo secured four points following his fifth-place finish in the men's javelin throw. He tossed the javelin 43.51m on his sixth throw of the day. The team also grabbed points in the 4x800m relay event. The quartet of Faga, Cole Harris, Michael Kleinman and Kaleb Pettit placed sixth overall in the event with a time of 9:16.31.
The women's team is currently tied for seventh place after day one, which was highlighted by Athena Seebald placing second in the 10,000m race. Seebald entered the day with the nation's top score in the event, and she ran a personal-best, posting a time of 45:38.62. Sophia Fantauzzi added two team points as she finished seventh overall in the 10,000m event, posting a time of 51:53.14.
Both programs are back in action for day two of the NJCAA Division III Track and Field Championships tomorrow, Friday, May 9th at 9 AM at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY.
