Men's Track & Field 4th after Day 1 of Nationals; Women 15th

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's track and field programs competed in day one of the 2023 NJCAA Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships today at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY.

After day one, the men's program sits fourth overall after they received 16 team points with second-place finishes from Jalen Graham in the men's hammer throw and Brooks Robson in the men's triple jump. Graham earned All-American Second Team with his second-place finish as he tossed a final throw of 44.95m. Robson also was named to the All-American Second Team in the triple jump as he finished with a final jump distance of 13.77m.

The women's team is 15th overall as they have accumulated three points in two events on day one. Ellicia Swedish earned two team points with her seventh-place finish in the women's 3,000m Steeplechase event. Swedish, the Region 3 Steeplechase champion, finished the event with an official time of 17:17.42.

Isabella Guyer earned one team point with her eighth-place finish in the women's hammer throw. She tossed an official distance of 26.24m on her third throw of the day.

The second day of the three-day championship meet is set to begin tomorrow, Friday, May 12 at 9:10 AM with the 110m Hurdles portion of the men's Decathlon. Headlining tomorrow's action for Hudson Valley is Charles Benichoux, last year's 100m dash national champion, who is scheduled to run at 4:45 p.m. in the first rounds of the event. Demetrius Williams is also set to compete in both the men's 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles in the afternoon.

Headlining for the women's team will be Ocean Meda, who is set to compete in the women's 400m event at 4 p.m. and the 100m dash at 4:30 p.m. Sophie Ericson is set to compete in the women's discus throw at 4 p.m.
