Benichoux Wins 100m; Track and Field Competes at Wesleyan

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's track and field programs competed at the J. Elmer Swanson Invitational, hosted by Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. on Sunday morning.

Charles Benichoux won the men's 100m dash over several four-year programs as he crossed the finish line with an official time of 11:03 seconds. Benichoux also earned a top-5 finish in the men's 200m race, placing fourth overall with a time of 22:69. 

Demetrius Williams placed sixth overall in the men's 110m Hurdles, running a time of 16.67 seconds. Xavier Hughes placed 11th in the same event and posted a time of 19.29 seconds. Hughes also performed well in the men's 400m Hurldes as he placed fifth overall with a time of 1:02.34.

Brooks Robson earned a win in the men's triple jump, posting a final distance of 13.45m, which he earned on is fourth jump of the day. In the men's long jump, Robson placed third overall with a final distance of 6.64m or 21' 9.5" and Jonathan Hanna finished fifth in the long jump with a distant of 6.34m.

In the men's discus, Jalen Graham placed fifth overall with a distance of 36.53m and placed fourth overall in the men's hammer throw. Graham tossed the hammer 43.71m or 143' 5". Aiden Alaxanian placed 10th overall in the shot put with a distance of 10.62m.

On the women's side of the meet, Setalnisa Osman-Mergani earned a top-15 finish in the women's 100m dash. She crossed the finish line with a time of 13.73 seconds. Sanbegoure Meda placed 15th in the same event with a time of 13.93 seconds. Osman-Mergani placed 16th overall in the women's 200m race and Meda placed 13th overall in the women's 400m event.

Alyssa Bruno had a great finish in the women's high jump as she posted a seventh-place finish with a distance of 1.48m. She also placed 11th overall in the women's long jump as she posted a distance of 4.29m on her final jump of the day.

The men's and women's track and field program return to action on Saturday, April 1 as they compete in the Yellowjacket Invitational at American International College in Springfield, Mass.
