Track and Field Competes at West Point

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's track and field programs participated in the West Point Tune Up in West Point, NY on Saturday.

The overall event did not have official team scores, but was used for individuals to get additional work in and opportunities to qualify for championship events.

Charles Benichoux placed second in the men's 60-meter final with a time of 7.0, and finished .07 seconds behind Trey Williams from Boomfield. Benichoux entered the race with the top 60-meters preliminaries time of 7.05 seconds. Daniel Honsinger also participated in the 60-meters dash and posted a prelim time of 7.95 seconds.

Xavier Hughes ran in the men's 200-meters event and finished 38th overall with a time of 25.32 seconds. Hughes also participated in the 60-meters Hurdles and posted a time of 10.14 seconds.  Ian Shaw and Adam Blough ran in the 800-meters event and posted times of 2:18.23 and 2:36.20, respectively. Blough also posted a time of 5:26.78 in the men's mile run.

Jonathan Hanna placed 12th overall in the men's high jump with a height of 1.70m. Brooks Robson earned a top-5 finish in the men's triple jump with a final distance of 12.91m. In the men's shot put event, Guerin Dupuis placed 12th overall with a throw of 11.67m.

Jalen Graham earned a fourth-place finish in the weight throw, finishing with a final distance of 15.92m.

On the women's side, Sanbegoure Meda participated in the women's 60-meter dash and posted a top-20 time of 8.71 seconds in the prelim rounds. Setalnisa Osman-Mergani posted a time of 9.0 seconds in the same event. 

Meda finished 18th overall in the men's 200-meter run with a time of 29.52 seconds and Ellicia Swedish finished with a time of 34.19 seconds. Swedish also ran in the 800-meter event and finished with a time of 3:09.28.

The track and field program will rest up and prepare for the March 25th event, the J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic in Middletown, Conn.
