The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer team earned a hard-fought match 4-2 over Finger Lakes on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of HVCC.

The Vikings jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage, scoring the two goals in the first 15-minutes of the game. Jadon Scott scored the first goal five minutes into the game, a header to the back of the net, which was set up nicely by a cross-field assist by Cody Cavagnaro

Brennan Halbohm one-timed a cross-pass from Faisal Rahmani, with space in the open box, just a few yards from the Lakers keeper, and sent the pass into the back of the net to give a full momentum swing to the Vikings.

The Lakers later cut into the deficit on a penalty kick, but Rahmani responded for the Vikings with a free kick goal from nearly 30 yards away and put Hudson Valley back up by two goals, 3-1.

With seconds remaining in the first half, Halbohm found a streaking Christopher Hertle down in the far corner of the field. Hertle sent the ball from the flag and directly into the far back corner of the net for an incredible goal and the Vikings jumped ahead 4-1 for the halftime break.

In the second half, the Lakers managed to score once, but the Vikings killed the clock and earned a tough win to start the 2023 season.

The men's soccer team returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 6 as they welcome Jefferson to the Outdoor Athletic Complex for a 5:15 p.m. start time.
