Soccer Teams Fall in Season Finale; Qualifies for Postseason

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's soccer programs closed out the 2022 regular season as they were both defeated by Onondaga on Wednesday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex at HVCC. 

The women kicked off the doubleheader and went up against a quick Onondaga program and fell behind early. The Lazers scored the first three goals of the game before the Vikings were able to put pressure on the defense and eventually scored as Melissa Cole sent a cross to the middle of the box for Marilyn Decker for the score. The Onondaga women won the game 4-1 and the Vikings finished the regular season with a 5-8-1 record and earned the No. 9 seed in the 2022 NJCAA Region 3 Tournament. The women will travel to take on No. 8 Jefferson on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. in Watertown, NY. 

The men closed out the evening with a tough match with the Lazers and they also fell behind early. Ty Plumley scored the Vikings lone goal at the 72-minute mark in the game. The Vikings finished the regular season with a 9-5-2 record and earned the No. 7 seed in the 2022 NJCAA Region 3 Tournament. The men will host No. 10 Tompkins Cortland this Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. at the Outdoor Athletic Complex at HVCC.
