The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer program battled for over 100-minutes of shutout soccer against a tough Jamestown program before Phenyo Ward found the back of the net for the golden goal and the 1-0 victory in a key Region 3 match up at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon in Troy, NY.
The game was tough, physical and a true defensive battle as both programs did not give an inch of field position as they attempted to maneuver all over the pitch. Ultimately, the Vikings took advantage of a Jamestown foul to set their offense up and that is when Ward collected a rebound cross and sent it to the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
The Vikings improved to 7-3-1 and now trail Jamestown by percentage points for fifth-place in the NJCAA Region 3 standings, reiterating the overall importance for the Vikings to claim the victory this afternoon over the Jayhawks.
Upcoming Schedule
The Vikings are back in action this Wednesday, October 5 when they travel to take on SUNY Broome in Binghamton, NY. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
