The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer program earned a 2-1 win in the 2022 season opener vs Clinton Community College on Wednesday afternoon at Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

The Vikings, fresh off a quality preseason training schedule, jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage over the Cougars when Anthony Rouse found the back of the net at the 11:05 mark. Rouse found an opening in the middle of the box and sent the shot to the back left of the box for the score.

Late in the first half, Clinton was able to even the score at 1-1 as they were able to cross over the defense for the score at the 43-minute mark.

The second half was a stalemate until the Vikings finally broke through the Cougars backline when Jason Cordts collected the pass in the middle of the field and advanced to the Clinton net. The keeper met Cordts near the edge of the box and Cordts was able to juke by the keeper for a relatively open shot on net and the score. Cordts' goal came at the 76-minute mark and the Vikings defense went into lockdown mode for the remaining 13-plus minutes to secure the victory.

Joe Lapan earned the win as the Vikings starting goalkeeper and finished the game with two saves and one goal allowed.

Hudson Valley returns to action on Saturday, September 3 when they travel to take on SUNY Ulster at Noon in Stone Ridge, New York.
