The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer (8-6) season has come to an end following the Vikings 2-1 overtime defeat at Mohawk Valley in the open round of the NJCAA Region 3 Championship Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

The Vikings grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half when Ethan Samarija (Castleton/Maple Hill) connected for his first goal of the season. Hudson Valley held the lead into the second half.

Mohawk Valley came back and tied the game following halftime when Owen Stapleton sent the ball by the Vikings keeper.

With minutes to go in regulation, the Vikings had an opportunity as Dan Dicocco (Schalmont/Schalmont) just missed the net on an open breakaway. Ryan Willis (Petersburgh/Berlin) also had a shot hit both posts as the ball rolled near the edge of the goal line before it ricocheted back into play.

The Vikings finished the season 8-6 and were led all season by Willis' 15 goals and 30 points. It is never too early to start thinking about next season. If you are interested in joining the men's soccer team for the spring season, please contact Coach Travis Cooke at t.cooke@hvcc.edu
