Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer (4-2) won a tough battle at home 4-2 against Adirondack on Wednesday afternoon.

The Vikings fell behind early as Adirondack's Greg Maccharulo took advantage of a breakaway, forcing a one-on-one with the Vikings' keeper, and scored the goal with a low shot to the right side of the keeper.

Hudson Valley responded with a goal at 14:30 when Daniel Dicocco (Schalmont/Schalmont) held off his defenders and booted the ball passed an approaching goalkeeper to tie the game at 1-1. About 10 minutes later, the Vikings scored again to take a 2-1 lead on Ryan Willis(Petersburgh/Berlin) first goal of the game.

Willis ran down a leading pass from Wickson Joseph (Hudson/Hudson) and sent his shot through the goalkeeper's legs for the goal. Willis scored again in the second half for the Vikings fourth  and final goal of the game with a strike around an Adirondack defender and into the top right corner of the net.

Joseph gave Hudson Valley a 3-2 advantage prior to halftime when he sent a chip shot from the left side of the box, about 15-yards away, for the score over Adirondack's keeper.

Luke Mara (Bethlehem/Bethlehem) earned the win as the Vikings goalkeeper, his second straight win while playing goal. Kiernan Hanley (Knox/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) replaced Mara in the second half and helped the Vikings defense shutout Adirondack in the final 45 minutes of the game.

The men's soccer team is back in action on Wednesday, September 19 as they welcome Mohawk Valley to Troy, NY. The scheduled game time is set for 4 p.m.
