The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse team overcame the wintry elements of rain, sleet and snow and earned the 11-5 road win over Sussex on Sunday afternoon at Newton High School in Newton, NJ.

The Vikings improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2009 when the Vikings defeated Tompkins Cortland, Dean and Harford to kick off the season.

The game started as a back-and-forth affair with both programs trading goals to a 4-4 tie at the end of the first quarter. Hudson Valley finally settled in and started to pull away from the home Sussex program. In the second quarter, Cole Duncan assisted on two goals, the only goals in the quarter as Seamus Camenga and Nicholas Rogers scored, giving the Vikings a 6-4 advantage at the halftime break. Duncan finished the game with seven points from five goals and two assists.

In the second half, Hudson Valley's goalkeeper, Cole Bourgeois, and the Vikings defense put on a clinic as they limited Sussex to just one goal in the final 30 minutes of the game. The tremendous play by Bourgeois provided the offense with additional possessions and the Vikings closed out the game on a 5-1 run to secure the 11-5 win.

Rogers guided the Vikings offense in the second half as he tallied one goal and two assists in the final two quarters. Rogers finished the game with two goals and three assists. Camenga ended the game with two goals and Isaac Weber and Wilfred Wright put one goal each on the board.

The Vikings return home for a critical Region 3 matchup against No. 3 ranked Onondaga this Wednesday, March 13th at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of HVCC. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m. and will be live streamed at www.hvccathletics.com/watch.
