Camenga, Duncan Leads Lacrosse in Dominant Win

The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse team earned a convincing 17-6 win over Mohawk Valley on Tuesday evening at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of HVCC.

Mohawk Valley jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as they scored the opening goal less than two minutes into the game. The Vikings then responded with three consecutive goals to push their lead to a 3-1 advantage after the first quarter. Cole Duncan tallied two goals and an assist in the opening quarter as the Region 3 player of the week picked up where he left off following his seven-point performance in last week's win over Mercer. Seamus Camenga tallied the Vikings second goal of the game as he was on his way to a career night.

In the second quarter, Camenga took over, scoring four straight goals for the Vikings and helped push their lead to a 10-3 advantage as the game entered the halftime break. Following a goal by Nicholas Rogers with 11:41 remaining in the quarter, Duncan and Camenga combined to score the next six goals for Hudson Valley. Camenga finished the game with a career-high six goals on eight shots.

Following the halftime break, the Vikings continued to extend its lead over Mohawk Valley as they outscored the hawks 7-3 in the final two quarters of the game. Duncan and Camenga each scored in the third along with Rogers and Wilfred Wright. Duncan finished the game with five goals and three assists on 13 shots.

In the fourth, Hudson Valley's scoring was spread out among Anthony Palladino, Anthony LaFarr and Carmelo LoPorto, who each scored their first goals of the season.

The offensive rallies were made possible with the overall face-off success by Anthony Mallette. Mallette won 16 face-offs, winning the possession for Hudson Valley nearly 70-percent of the time. Cole Bourgeois played the majority of the game in goal and recorded six saves while facing 11 shots. Matthew Trippany closed out the final quarter in goal and recorded four saves on five shots.

The Vikings return to action on Sunday, March 10 as they travel to take on Sussex at the Newton High School athletics fields in Newton, NJ. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
