The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse team won a critical Region 3 matchup 13-8 over Tompkins Cortland as they edge closer to a postseason berth as one of the Region's top-4 programs.

The Vikings dominated the first three quarters of the game as they lead by as many as 10 goals with a 11-1 lead in the third quarter. Tompkins Cortland fought back in the fourth, outscoring Hudson Valley 6-2 in the final quarter, but were unable to manufacture enough goals to overcome the 10-goal deficit.

Leading the way for the Vikings was Matt Calicchia, who entered the game as the season-leader with 44 points. Calicchia tallied seven points on four goals and three assists. Calicchia paced the first quarter scoring as he scored or assisted on three of the team's first five goals of the game.

Bill DiDonna recorded four goals and one assist and Gavin Breen added one goal and two assists and Jack Alvey added two goals in the second half to help keep the Panthers at a distance. In goal, Alex Ely allowed eight goals and made nine saves to earn his sixth win of the season as the team's primary goalkeeper.

The win gives the Vikings a winning season for the first time since they finished 9-5 in 2019 and are on track to secure a Region 3 playoff berth in the NJCAA Region 3 Championships on Saturday, April 29.
