The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse team improved to 5-4 on the season after a convincing 24-4 road win over Finger Lakes on Wednesday afternoon in Canandaigua, NY.

The Vikings didn't waste much time as they jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the Lakers when Matt Calicchia found an open Gavin Breen for the score, just 40 seconds into the game. Calicchia had a big game for the Vikings as he finished with nine assists and two goals. He tallied both goals at the start of the first quarter, scoring at 13:29 and 12:44 in the opening frame.

As a team, the Vikings were able to share the ball as 10 individuals managed to score at least one goal. Breen, Calicchia, Bill DiDonna, Caleb Dyer, Willis Bickford and Jack Alvey all finished with multiple goals in the game. DiDonna finished with a team-best five goals and Bickford and Alvey both tallied four goals in the game.

Hudson Valley totaled 70 shots, with 48 shots on goal and collected 51 ground balls while causing 15 turnovers. Dyer's overall success as the primary face-off led to the Vikings high scoring game as Dyer won 18-of-25 face-offs and also collected 12 ground balls. Chris MacDonald scored once and also tallied 12 ground balls and caused three turnovers.

In goal, Alex Ely saved four shots and allowed all four goals in just over 55 minutes in net. Matthew Trippany finished the final 4:21 of the game.

Up next for the Vikings is a critical Region 3 matchup with Tompkins Cortland as they welcome the Panthers to the Outdoor Athletic Complex this Friday, April 14 with a potential Region 3 playoff berth on the line. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., following a short senior night recognition ceremony.
