The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse program dropped a high-scoring affair against Region 3 rival Herkimer 22-14 at the Outdoor Athletic Complex at HVCC on Wednesday evening.

Following a couple back-and-forth goals by both programs, the Vikings managed to jump ahead to a 6-4 lead at the first quarter break, but the Generals outscored Hudson Valley 6-3 in the second quarter to take a three-goal advantage at halftime, 10-7.

Following halftime, the Vikings couldn't keep up with the Generals offense as they were outscored 9-2 in the third quarter and Herkimer pulled away as they built up a big lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Vikings played well in the last quarter, outscoring Herkimer 5-3, but couldn't overcome the 10-goal deficit.

The offensive leaders for the Vikings were Matthew Calicchia, who scored a team-high four goals and added one assist for five points. Cole Duncan and Jack Alvey both tallied hat tricks with three goals on the night. Duncan also added an assist on the Vikings 11th goal of the game.

The Vikings men's lacrosse program returns to action this Sunday, April 2 as they welcome Sussex to the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of HVCC. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will be streamed live at hvccathletics.com/watch.
