Men's Lacrosse Falls Short against Mercer

The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse dropped a tough NJCAA match to Mercer 11-8 on Monday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex at HVCC.

Mercer caught Hudson Valley off guard at the beginning of the game and jumped up to a quick 3-0 lead before the Vikings were able to put a couple goals on the board. The first half was a back-and forth affair, once Hudson Valley was able to regroup and settle into the game. Trailing 6-5, Hudson Valley gave up two late goals in the first half to pull ahead 8-5 at the halftime break.

In the third quarter, the game was evenly matched and the Vikings were unable to cut into their deficit as the quarter finished 3-3 and Mercer held onto a three-goal advantage 11-8. In the fourth, Mercer turned on the jets and outscored Hudson Valley 4-2 in the quarter to secure the five goal win.

Hudson Valley's offense was paced by sophomore Jack Alvey, who finished with a team-high five goals, including three-straight goals to end the first and lead off the second quarter for the Vikings. Cole Duncan, the Vikings current leading scorer added two goal, the team's first and last goals of the game. Matthew Calicchia recorded four points on one goal and three assists.

Up next for the Vikings lacrosse program is a home matchup against Genesee this Saturday, March 25 at the Outdoor Athletic Complex at HVCC. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start and will be livestreamed at HVCCAthletics.com/WATCH.
