The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse team had an offensive explosion as they scored a season high 23 goals in its 23-3 win over Mohawk Valley at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

The 23 goals scored by the Vikings were the most goals scored by the program since February 2018 when they put up a 30-spot on Northern Virginia.

Freshman Matthew Calicchia guided the Vikings as he scored or assisted on six of the Vikings first 12 goals of the game, resulting in an early 12-1 lead after the first quarter of the game. Calicchia finished the game with 10 points on six goals and four assists. Calicchia entered the game with 30 points, ranking 10th in the NJCAA. Following his career day, Calicchia is now sitting inside the top-5 with 40 total points on the year.

Jake Ring, Tai Ryan, Jack Alvey all scored two goals in the first quarter, which played a big role in the Vikings 9-0 run late in the first quarter and continued through the entire second quarter to give the Vikings a 14-1 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Vikings continued to find the back of the net against the Hawks. Willis Bickford started the second half rally as he scored his second goal of the game at the 10:10 mark in the third. Calicchia then added back-to-back goals and ending the quarter with an assist on Ring's fourth goal of the game with 28 seconds remaining in the quarter.

Hudson Valley went on to outscore the Hawks 5-1 in the final quarter as five different Vikings connected for a fourth quarter goal. Chris MacDonald, Ryan, Nate Burek, Calicchia and Breen were responsible for the Vikings five goals in the quarter.

Guari Reyes had a nice game in goal for Hudson Valley. Although he didn't face many shots, he only allowed three goals and recorded five saves in the win. Heading into the game, Reyes ranked first in the NJCAA with 123 saves.

Up next for the Vikings is a key Region 3 road matchup with a tough Tompkins Cortland program as the Vikings attempt to push its win streak to three-straight. The Vikings travel to Dryden, NY on Friday, April 15 for a 5 p.m. scheduled start.
