The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse team earned a hard-fought road win 14-7 against Sussex Community College on Sunday morning in Newton, NJ.

The Vikings jumped out early on Sussex as they started the game with a 6-0 first quarter advantage, following a week off. The rested Vikings used their fresh legs to build out the early lead behind two first quarter goals from Matthew Calicchia. Calicchia finished the game with five goals and one assist to pace the offensive attack.

They continued their strong play in the second quarter as they scored four more goals and allowed three to Sussex, but still held on to a 10-3 lead at the halftime break. Tai Ryan scored twice in the second quarter and later added an assist on Calicchia's fifth goal of the game, late in the fourth quarter.

A combination of Calicchia, Jack Alvey and Argyris Dinoris, led to the four Vikings goals in the second half of the game, which was an evenly matched half with Sussex keeping up with the Vikings by scoring four second half goals of their own. Alvey and Dinoris each finished the game with two goals in the game.

Up next for the Vikings is a home match with Region 3 opponent Mohawk Valley this Wednesday, April 6 at 4 p.m. on the turf field at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.
