Lacrosse Falls to No. 9 Delaware Tech

The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse team dropped a hard fought game against No. 9 Delaware Tech on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. 

The Vikings fell behind early, scored three goals with in a four-minute time frame to get back into the game. Later in the second quarter, the Vikings scored two more goals in a minute, pulling within two goals of Delaware Tech, trailing 7-5. The Vikings had a late opportunity with 30 seconds remaining in the half, but Delaware Tech was able to keep the Vikings off the board and entered halftime with Delaware Tech leading 7-5. 

In the second half, an untimely Hudson Valley penalty gave Delaware State a man up and they quickly take advantage, scoring 10 seconds into the penalty to extend their lead 8-6. Vikings' Willis Bickford responded and scored with 9:30 on the clock to bring the Vikings back within a goal of Delaware Tech, 8-7.

The game quickly turned in favor or Delaware Tech when a key three-minute locked-in penalty by the Vikings put them a man-down and Delaware Tech made the Vikings pay. They scored five goals during the man-up opportunity and pulled away from the Vikings for good. 

The Vikings and Delaware Tech continued to trade goals in the fourth quarter, but the Vikings could not overcome the five-goal run made by Delaware Tech during the locked-in penalty. 

Jack Alvey scored five goals and one assist to lead the Vikings scoring offense and Matthew Calicchia talled six points with a goal and five assists. 

Hudson Valley is back home on Tuesday, March 22 when they host Herkimer. Faceoff is set to begin at 4 p.m. at the Outdoor Athletic Complex at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY.
