Men's Lacrosse Wins Fifth Straight

Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse (8-3) have now won five straight games after defeating Broome 22-2 this afternoon at the Vikings Outdoor Athletic Complex.

The Vikings nearly surpassed 20 goals for the second time in three games as they have their high powered offense running on all cylinders with the postseason tournaments scheduled to begin next week.

They Vikings were led by Aaron Thorpe (Malta/Ballston Spa) as he was one of five players to score multiple goals in the game. Following a 23 point week last week, Thorpe continued to have the hot hand offensively, scoring six goals and adding four assists today.

Trae Dussault (Saratoga Springs) and Nathan Bruce (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) each scored four goals on the day. Dussault's four goals are a career high for the second year attacker for the Vikings. Bruce extends his scoring streak to of five or more points in a game to three straight games.

Christopher Calicchia (Loudonville/Shaker) added five points on three goals and two assists. He also grabbed eight ground balls and caused a pair of Broome turnovers.

Defensively, the Vikings caused 11 turnovers and collected 50 groundballs. Austin Mendel (Adams, Mass./Hoosac Valley) guided the Vikings as he led the team with 10 groundballs and four caused turnovers.

The Vikings conclude the 2018 regular season on Wednesday, April 18 when they travel to play Finger Lakes at 4 p.m.
