Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse (2-1) team dropped its first game of the 2018 season as the Vikings were defeated 22-4 by No.4 ranked Genesee Community College on Wednesday afternoon in Batavia, N.Y.

Genesee jumped out to an early 7-0 lead before the Vikings' Nathan Bruce (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) found the back of the net for the team's first goal of the game. The Cougars answered with five straight goals to extend their lead to 12-1. Hudson Valley managed to score a goal with 19 seconds remaining in the first half as Aaron Thorpe (Malta/Ballston Spa), the Vikings leading scorer connected for Hudson Valley's second goal of the quarter.

In the second half, Genesee's offense kicked it into high-gear and scored 10 more goals and the Cougars defense kept Hudson Valley scoreless in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Bruce and Mark Calicchia (Loudonville/Shaker) both scored late in the fourth quarter for the Vikings third and fourth goals of the game.

As a team, the Vikings combined for 20 shots with 12 shots on goal. Hudson Valley was at a disadvantage for the majority of the game as Genesee won 23 face offs, compared to seven face offs won by the Vikings.

The Vikings are back in action this Saturday, March 24 to play Jefferson at 11 a.m. on the campus of Union College in Schenectady, N.Y.
