The No. 3 seed Hudson Valley Community College hockey team (13-12-2) defeated No. 4 Mohawk Valley Community College (10-15-1) 8-4 in the last round of the National Tournament on Sunday afternoon at SUNY Broome Community College. The Vikings finished third overall in the tournament.
Hudson Valley got off to an early start, scoring four unanswered in the opening period. During the second and third, the Vikings and the Hawks each scored four goals.
The leading scorer for Hudson Valley was Sean Spohr (Westfield/Westfield, MA) with two goals. Also scoring for the Vikings were Chris Breault (Agawam/Agawam, MA), Tyler Demarco (Windsor Locks/Windsor Locks, CT), Hunter Craig (Thornton Academy/Saco ME), Adam Hosmer (Westfield/Westfield, MA), Kyle Constanty (Beekmantown/Plattsburgh), and Troy Bennett (Mohonasen/Rotterdam).
Goalie Anthony DiGiorgio (Bethpage/Bethpage) recorded 24 saves in the victory.
Nate Muller (Bellows Free Academy/Highgate, VT) made the All-Tournament team for his performance against Erie, where he recorded 41 saves. Muller finished the season ranked 2nd in the nation with a .919 Save Percentage, and 3rd in Goals-Against Average.
Dakota College at Bottineau (25-3-1) was crowned the champions of the National Tournament, beating Erie Community College (21-5-1) 7-4 on Sunday afternoon. The Lumberjacks went undefeated during the weekend, beating Mohawk Valley (10-15-1) on Friday 5-1, and Hudson Valley on Saturday 10-1. This year's championship gives Dakota 10 hockey National Championships in program history.
