The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's bowling teams opened their 2003-04 seasons with a pair of holiday tournaments. The Hudson Valley men finished 10th out of 44 participating schools on December 27-28 at the Colgate Invitational in Stratford, New Jersey. The women came in 17th out of 22 colleges.
Hudson Valley then traveled to the Keystone Quaker Classic in Allentown, Pennsylvania where the men finished 17th out of 43 schools and the women were 18th out of 22 teams.
Sophomore Steve Horton (Troy/Troy High School) finished seventh out of 264 bowlers to lead the Vikings in the Colgate Invitational. He rolled a 225.6 average. Freshman John Costello (Troy/Catholic Central High School) was 46th with a 206.8 average.
The Lady Vikings were led by sophomore Katie Duncan's (Voorheesville/Clayton A. Bouton High School) 177.1 average in New Jersey.
Freshman Matt Spickler (Watervliet/Watervliet High School) rolled a 199.0 average to lead the Hudson Valley men at the Quaker Classic. He finished 26th out of 264 competitors. The women were paced by freshman Kaitlyn Thibodeau (Cohoes/Cohoes High School), who rolled a 185.3 average. She finished 14th out of 126 bowlers.
Hudson Valley will compete at the SUNY Utica/Rome Invitational on January 17.
