The Hudson Valley Community College men's bowling team is ranked second in the initial National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll. Meanwhile, the Hudson Valley women's bowling team is ranked third in the nation by the NJCAA.
Leading the Vikings thus far this season is sophomore Dan Ahl (Loudonville/Colonie High School), who tops the nation with a 239.7 average through 17 games. The Hudson Valley men finished sixth out of 38 schools at the prestigious Colgate Invitational in Maple Shade, New Jersey on December 27-28.
Sophomore Erin Fagan (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) leads the Lady Vikings with a 202.5 average over 17 games.
In the 2001-02 academic year, Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win 65 percent of their contests. The college's softball team traveled to Illinois for the national championship tournament and finished second in the country, and the women's basketball team placed seventh in the nation. Hudson Valley's football team won the Northeast Football Conference, and the baseball and bowling squads each added a Mountain Valley Conference title. Additionally, three Vikings earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status and eight were honored with All-American status.
