Basketball's James Blake and Abigayle Yetto Awarded December Student-Athletes of the Month

The Hudson Valley Community College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the recipients of the Vikings Student-Athlete of the Month award. The December 2024 honorees are Abigayle Yetto (Women's Basketball) and James Blake (Men's Basketball).
James Blake a returning sophomore for the men's basketball program, played a key role during the Vikings 2023-24 season and has proven himself to be a strong leader again so far this season. The Troy native has started all 9 games so far this season and is averaging 16.4 points per game with a total of 148 points and counting in this 24/25 season. Blake is also a threat defensively with 36 defensive rebounds (50 total) and 12 steals. Blake looks to be a standout this season leading the Vikings on the court. Blake is on track to graduate in May with a degree in Electrical Construction & Maintenence.
Abigayle Yetto, a Hoosick Falls native, is in her second year with the women's basketball program. Yetto, a two sport athlete, has asserted herself as a standout student-athlete at HVCC. Playing in all 12 games of the ongoing 2024/25 season Yetto has made an impact as the teams point guard handling the ball and scoring 90 points so far. Averaging 7.5 points per game and shooting 39-76 Abigayle is a key player in the Vikings offense. Yetto is also a star defender with 45 steals so far this season as well as 21 defensive rebounds (35 total) for the Vikings. Abbie is also an intern in the Athletic Training room to contribute to her major of Exercise Science where she has excelled in the classroom.
The Vikings Student-Athlete of the Month award is presented nine times annually (September through May) to recognize student-athletes for their outstanding academic and athletic achievements.
