The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team couldn't overcome late game obstacles as they Vikings were defeated 78-77 by Tompkins Cortland on Sunday afternoon at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of HVCC.

Brandon Gordon played a key role in bringing the Vikings back in front of Tompkins Cortland. Hudson Valley trailed by as much as 59-48 before Gordon scored 11 straight points for Hudson Valley and the Vikings closed the gap with an 11-3 run. Gordon finished the game with a team-high 22 points off the bench.

A James Blake II three-point play with 4:25 left in the game put Hudson Valley up 67-65 and the Vikings and Panthers continued to trade baskets with TC3 ultimately taking the lead as they benefited from a Vikings technical foul to move ahead 74-72. Hudson Valley couldn't take advantage of a late game steal and missed three layup opportunities, resulting in Tompkins Cortland securing the 78-77 win.

Blake finished the game with 18 points (7-of-19) and nine rebounds in 35 minutes of play and Keyaton Parks continued to play well in the paint, scoring 15 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.

The men's program has a critical Region 3 matchup coming up this Saturday, January 20th as they host rival and nationally-ranked Herkimer at 1 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of HVCC.
