Hudson Valley Community College's men's basketball program dropped its second straight close home match 73-70 to North Country in the McDonough Sports Complex at HVCC on Tuesday evening.

The North Country Saints entered the game winning five straight games and were able to extend the streak to six after holding off the Vikings late game attack with seconds remaining in the game. Hudson Valley tallied four turnovers in the final 90 seconds of the game as they were trailing the Saints by one point for a majority of those 90 seconds, which helped the Saints keep the narrow advantage on the Vikings.

As a team, Hudson Valley shot 46 percent from the floor, including 41 percent from behind the three-point arc and the Saints matched the Vikings shooting as they also finished with a 46 percent shooting percentage from the floor.

Demani Benjamin finished with a team-high 19 points and added eight rebounds and four assists. Trevor Green shot 6-of-12 from the floor for 16 points and tallied 9 rebounds, six assists and two steals. Jourdan Belcher also posted 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting with seven rebounds.

However, the story of the game came down to late game turnovers and the Vikings finished with 19 team turnovers. The combination of Benjamin, Green and Belcher tallied 14 of the 19 team turnovers and North Country took advantage of the situation as they finished the game with 24 points off turnovers.

Hudson Valley returns to the court this Saturday, January 28 when they welcome a tough Cayuga program to the McDonough Sports Complex at HVCC. The game is scheduled to begin at Noon. The game will be streamed at hvccathletics.com/watch.
