The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team jumped four spots and are now ranked No. 6 in the latest NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Rankings as announced by the NJCAA on Monday afternoon.
The Vikings have improved to 8-3 (7-2 Region 3) on the season after defeating No. 2 Herkimer 78-68 last week in the McDonough Sports Complex. To date, the men's program is now 4-0 against NJCAA Top-10 programs this season, including three top-10 wins during its current four-game win streak (Mohawk Valley, Corning, Genesee, Herkimer).
The No. 6 ranking is the highest the men's basketball program has received since they ranked No. 5 on the December 4, 2018, poll when they started the season with a 9-1 record.
In last week's upset win over No. 2 Herkimer, the Vikings were led by Jourdan Belcher, who finished with a career-high 34 points and added 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
The men's basketball program begins a three-game road trip tomorrow, Tuesday, January 10 when they travel to take on Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Mass. The game is part of a doubleheader with the women's program and is expected to tip around 7 p.m.
