Men's Basketball Defeats Rockland 94-61

Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball won its third straight game and seven of their last eight games after defeating Rockland 94-61 in the McDonough Sports Complex on Tuesday evening on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

The Vikings and the Hawks traded baskets early with Rockland holding on to a narrow 10-8 advantage before Hudson Valley responded with a 15-0 run to pull away with a 23-10 lead with 11:56 remaining in the first half and they continued to pull away as they continued to lead by double-digits for the remainder of the game. The mid-first half run by the Vikings put Rockland away as the Vikings managed to break the Rockland press in the second part of the first half, in an unsuccessful attempt to force HVCC turnovers.

Hudson Valley had four starters finish in double-figure scoring and were led by Kobi Wallace (Lansingburgh/Troy) and Trevor Green (Lansingburgh/Troy), who both scored a game-high 22 points. Green finished with another double-double, securing 11 rebounds as well as three assists, two steals and four blocks. Wallace shot 11-of-15 and was lights-out from 15-feet, hitting clutch jumpers in his 27 minutes of action. Wallace also added six rebounds and two assists in the win.

Jourdan Belcher (Elmsford / Alexander Hamilton) shot 5-of-7 from the floor and finished with 12 points and six rebounds after getting into early foul trouble in the first half. Demani Benjamin (Albany / Green Tech) added 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting and dished out a game-best eight assists and five steals.

The Vikings enter the holiday break with a 7-3 record as they were recently listed as the No. 11 ranked team in the NJCAA Coaches Rankings, which was released on Monday morning by the NJCAA.

Hudson Valley returns to action on Thursday, January 5 as they host nationally-ranked Herkimer at 1 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.
