The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team were defeated on the road 96-69 in their season opener against a talented SUNY Orange program in Middletown, NY on Thursday evening.

The Vikings started off slow as the Orange Colts took advantage on their home court, pulling away from Hudson Valley 36-18 with just over five minutes remaining in the opening half. Hudson Valley was held scoreless for over four minutes and during that span, Orange extended its lead to 23-5, a lead in which the Vikings could not recover from in the second half. Orange has now defeated the Vikings in three consecutive seasons.

Hudson Valley shot 10-of-27 from the free throw line, including 3-of-16 in the second half as Orange outscored the Vikings 47-40 in the final 20 minutes of the game. Leading the Vikings offensively was Trevor Green, who finished with a team-high 13 points. Demani Benjamin added 11 points and Kobi Wallace had 10 points, including eight points in the second half alone.

Up next for Hudson Valley is their home-opener on Tuesday, November 8 when they welcome a tough Fulton-Montgomery team to the McDonough Sports Complex. The women will tip-off first at 5 p.m., followed by the men. The game will be live streamed at hvccathletics.com/WATCH.
