Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball (9-12) is playing their best basketball of the season as they have now won five straight games after defeating Schenectady 73-61 on Saturday afternoon in the McDonough Sports Complex in Troy, NY.

The men's basketball team partnered with the athletic department and the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation to hold a fundraiser for their teammate, Justus Simon, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

The Vikings were led by freshman Brandon Degrasse (Bronx/E.A. Reynolds) with 22 points and sophomore Dave Reo (North Greenbush/Catholic Central), who finished the game with 17 points.

Mitchell Dame (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) tallied 13 total points and has now scored in double-figures in five of the last six games for the Vikings.

The score was tied 50-50 with 9:30 remaining in the game, both teams went cold from the floor for over two minutes of play. The Vikings ended their scoring drought when Degrasse grabbed the offensive rebound for the easy lay-up and the foul, giving the Vikings a 53-50 advantage with 7:24 remaining.

Hudson Valley weathered a small run by the Royals before Dame hit a baseline jumper to put the Vikings up 61-56 with two minutes remaining. Reo hit a three-pointer for the dagger, putting the game away and secured the Vikings fifth straight win.

The men's basketball team is on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 7 as they travel to play Clinton Community College at 7 p.m.
