The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team (1-0) tipped-off the 2017 season with an 88-83 win over Rockland Community College at the McDonough Sports Complex on Wednesday night.

The Vikings had five student-athletes surpass double-digit scoring as Taylor Slattery (Moriah/Moriah) led all scorers with a game-high 23 points, as he scored 19 points in the second half. Slattery also led the Vikings from behind the arc, hitting four three-pointers on the night.

Mitchell Dame (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and Dave Reo (North Greenbush/Catholic Central) guided the Vikings to the early lead as the duo had 23 of their combined 29 points scored in the first half. Caleb Canty (Hudson/Hudson) added 13 points on four field-goals and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Brandon Degrasse (Bronx/E.A. Reynolds) also reached double-digit scoring with 12 points after shooting 7-of-8 from the free throw line tonight.

Deyondre Downing and Divine Cesar combined for 41 points for Rockland as Downing scored 21 points and Cesar added 20 points, respectively.

The men's program is back in action this Saturday, Nov. 4 when they travel to face Cayuga at 3 p.m.
