The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team (20-11) defeated Tompkins-Cortland Community College (21-5) 60-51 in the opening round of the regional tournament on Friday afternoon.
The Vikings trailed by eight at the half, but managed to outscore the Panthers 34-17 in the second half to move on to the semifinals of the Regional Tournament. Brandon Dean (Flagler Palm Coast/Bunnell, FL) led all scorers with 22 points, while Jose Reyes (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) added nine points and 10 assists. Jeffrey Kruzinski (Mohonasen/Schenectady) recorded nine points, including a go-ahead three-pointer, and Nate Monson (Cohoes/Cohoes) added nine points, all coming from behind the arc.
The Vikings play the winner of North Country and Delhi tomorrow at 1 p.m.
