The SUNY Delhi Broncos (13-15) were no match for the Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team (17-8) on Saturday, Feb. 13, as the Vikings jumped out to a large early lead and coasted to victory, 78-65.
Hudson Valley scored at will early in the contest, doubling Delhi's score at 38-19. Delhi put together an early run out of the locker room and, five minutes into the second half, cut the lead to 12. The Vikings held onto a 12-14 point lead for much of the half until Carlos Pellot-Rivera (Carmel, Carmel) hammered a monstrous two-handed dunk off an acrobatic spin move. The banger sparked a 10-0 run and put the Vikes up 67-43 with under five minutes to play. Hudson Valley rolled to a 78-65 win.
Pellot-Rivera finished the day with 19 points. Ramel Alexander (Berkshire, Albany) had 17 points and Steven Hunt (Wynantskill, Tamarac) added 14.
The men will play their final regular-season game on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. at home versus Schenectady County Community College. Come join us for "senior night" as we watch our sophomores compete at home for the last time.
