The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team (15-7) put together a hot second half to take down Clinton Community College, 82-70, on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
Despite shooting 52% from the field in the first half, the Vikings found themselves up only 40-36 at the break. Clinton kept it a two possession game as the Cougars went on an 11-5 run to close the half.
The Vikings came out of the locker room and answered emphatically with a 26-6 run in the first nine minutes of the half. Clinton had no answers for the inside play of Steven Hunt (Tamarac, Wynantskill), Matt Harte (Lansingburgh, Troy) and Carlos Pellot-Rivera (Carmel, Carmel). Anthony Robustiano (Mohonasen, Schenectady) also got in on the action, hitting a three and a driving lay-up during the run. With eight minutes left, the Vikings led 68-46 and cruised to the 82-70 victory.
Hunt was the leading scorer of the night with 23 points. He also added eight rebounds. Ramel Alexander (Berkshire, Albany) and Pellot-Rivera had 19 and 18 points, respectively, and both grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Vikings go on the road to play a huge game at Mohawk Valley Community College, Saturday, Feb. 6.
