The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team had a high-scoring day on offense as they beat Ulster County Community College, 101-88, on Sunday, Jan. 31.
The Vikings shot 58% from the field in the first half to take a 50-47 lead into the locker room against the visiting Senators of Ulster County Community College. Ramel Alexander (Berkshire, Albany) poured in 20 of his game-high 38 points in the first half. Matt Harte (Lansingburgh, Troy) "and one" helped to break a 53-53 tie and triggered a Viking run that would keep the Senators no closer than seven points throughout the rest of the contest. A breakaway dunk by Alexander, a reverse jam by Carlos Pellot-Rivera (Carmel, Carmel) and steady play by Steven Hunt (Tamarac, Troy) helped seal the deal in the closing minutes of the game.
Hunt turned in a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Pellot-Rivera also added 16 points and Chris Hurin (Taconic Hills, Hudson) had his most productive game of the season with 10 points. Alexander added seven steals.
The Vikings are back home on Wednesday, Feb. 3 when they take on Clinton County Community College at 7 p.m.
