The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team (2-0) captured the championship of the 2008 Viking Invitational on Sunday evening with a 71-60 victory over Broome Community College. Ramel Alexander (Albany/Albany) had 19 points and eight rebounds, while Garret Bishop (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga) and Ian Austin-Michaud (Ichabod Crane/Valatie) had 18 and 12 points respectively.
The Vikings advanced to the championship game with an 88-65 win over North Country Community College. Dalton Austin-Michaud (Ichabod Crane/Valatie) led four players in double figures for the Vikings with 20 points, while Pat Barnes (Mohonasen/Rotterdam) added 15 points, Ramel Alexander (Albany/Albany) 13 points and Pat Lanoue (Hoosic Valley/Troy) had 12 points. Austin-Michaud (Ichabod Crane/Valatie) also had 19 rebounds. The team next faces Fulton Montgomery Community College at home on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.
