The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team earned the top seed in the NJCAA Region III Division III men's basketball tournament. The men will play the winner of the Tompkins Cortland/Fulton Montgomery game, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 29 at Herkimer County Community College.
Hudson Valley is 29-0 on the season and they are making a record 18th consecutive appearance in the tournament. The men are currently ranked number one in the latest NJCAA national poll.
The all Section II roster is led in scoring by Justin Gallo (Brunswick/ Lansingburgh HS). The sophomore is averaging 21.9 ppg. He is second on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,105 points. Emanuel Mayben (Troy/ Troy HS) has run the offense all season for the Vikings. He is averaging 19.9 ppg, 9.6 apg, and 6.1 rebounds. Currently, Mayben has 269 assists which is a school record. Datwan Hemingway (Albany/ CBA) has posted 26 double-doubles on the season. He is averaging 19.8 ppg and 14.1 rpg. Derrick Faragon (Rotterdam Junction/Schenectady HS) and Ryne Luce (Cohoes/ Cohoes HS) round out the starting five. They are averaging 13.5 and 13.7 ppg respectively.
