Justin Gallo (Brunswick/Lansingburgh High School), a sophomore guard on the Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team, has been named the NJCAA Region III Male Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 2, 2007.
Gallo averaged 25 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in a 3-0 week for the Vikings. He had 29 points, eight rebounds and three assists in a 114-104 win over defending Region III champion Fulton-Montgomery Community College on November 27. He followed that victory with a 19 point, 5 rebound effort in an 89-75 win over SUNY Cobleskill on Friday, November 30. Gallo capped off a stellar week on Sunday by scoring 27 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and handing out four assists in a 113-76 victory over Cayuga Community College.
Gallo is leading the Vikings in scoring at 21.7 points per game. He also is averaging 5.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest.
Meanwhile, with the three wins last week, Hudson Valley improved its record to 12-0 this season and remains the No. 1 team in the NJCAA Division III poll for the second straight week. Hudson Valley collected all eight first place votes in the poll.
