The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team has assumed the top spot in the latest NJCAA Division III poll.
Hudson Valley is off to a 9-0 start this season entering tonight's game at defending Region III champion Fulton-Montgomery Community College (4-1). The Vikings are one of three Region III teams in the top 10. SUNY Cobleskill is ranked third and will visit Hudson Valley this Friday, November 30. Tompkins Cortland Community College is ranked seventh.
Hudson Valley leads all NJCAA Division III teams in scoring at 102.2 points per game. The Vikings boast five players averaging aver 14 points per game.
Sophomore guard Justin Gallo (Brunswick/Lansingburgh High School) leads the way with 20.6 points per game. Sophomore guard Emanuel Mayben (Troy/Troy High School) quarterbacks the offense with 19.4 points and 9.9 assists per game. Sophomore forward Datwan Hemingway (Albany/CBA) has posted a double-double in each of his eight games and averages 19 points and 13.3 rebounds per contest. Sophomore forward Derrick Faragon (Schenectady/Schenectady High School) and sophomore guard Ryne Luce (Cohoes/Cohoes High School) are averaging 15.6 and 14.1 points per game, respectively.
