Freshman guard Kevin Timmons (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills High School) hit the game-winning shot with 1.9 seconds remaining to lift the Hudson Valley Community College (2-0) men's basketball team to an 83-81 win over Springfield Technical Community College (1-1) in the championship game of the inaugural Viking Club Invitational in Troy.
Timmons scored the final eight points of the game for the Vikings, which included a three-point bucket with 2:07 to go to give Hudson Valley a 78-77 lead and a three-point bucket with 1:31 remaining to give Hudson Valley an 83-81 lead. He finished the game with 13 points and four assists and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Freshman guard Justin Gallo (Brunswick/Lansingburgh High School) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after scoring a team-high 22 points and dishing out four assists. Sophomore forward Zach Bye (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville High School) posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and sophomore forward Bryan Ashline (Watervliet/Watervliet High School) contributed 11 points.
Sophomore forward Henry Ogirri (Springfield, MA) had 27 points to pace Springfield Tech. Freshman guard Phil Gardner (South Hadley, MA) added 18 points.
Hudson Valley will return to action on Tuesday, November 7 at Ulster County Community College.
