The Hudson Valley Community College (20-11) men's basketball team had its season come to an end in a 67-62 loss to Mohawk Valley Community College (18-12) in the opening round of the Region III tournament earlier tonight in Troy.
Mohawk Valley, the tenth seed, controlled the boards all evening, scoring 22 second chance points off 24 offensive rebounds. The Hawks held a 58-31 rebounding advantage over No. 7 Hudson Valley for the game.
Mohawk Valley opened up a 57-46 lead with 4:32 remaining in the game before Hudson Valley went on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 57-53 with 3:29 remaining. Sophomore guard Dane Samuels (New City/Clarkstown North High School) scored six of the seven points during the run and finished the game with 26 points for the Vikings. However, Hudson Valley was unable to get any closer.
Sophomore guard Ramel Lockwood (Utica) led Mohawk Valley with 15 points. Freshman forwards Greg Campbell (Bronx) and Antonio Ware (Brooklyn) added 14 points apiece.
Sophomore forward Khylan Hunt (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) added 19 points and nine rebounds for Hudson Valley.
