The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team has received an invitation to the NJCAA Region III Division III tournament for the 15th consecutive season, and will travel to Jefferson Community College on Tuesday, March 1 for an opening round game. The contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
Hudson Valley (15-13) is the tournament's 10th seed. The Vikings have played every college in the 11-team tournament during the regular season except for No. 7 Jefferson.
The winner of Tuesday's game will meet second seeded SUNY Cobleskill (26-4) in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 4 in Utica.
Freshman forward Khylan Hunt (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) leads Hudson Valley with 15.5 points and 9.7 rebounds per game this season. Sophomore guard Aric Kucel (Gloversville/Gloversville High School) is netting 14.3 points and dishing out 4.2 assists per contest.
The winner of the Region III tournament will advance to the eight-team NJCAA Division III championship in Delhi. Cayuga Community College is the defending Region III tournament champion, and Suffolk County Community College-Selden is the defending national champion.
