The Hudson Valley Community College (10-10) men's basketball team erased a 19-point second half deficit only to fall a basket short in an 89-87 loss at Herkimer County Community College on Saturday.
Hudson Valley trailed 65-46 with 14 minutes remaining in the game before rallying. Herkimer led 88-84 with 2.5 seconds remaining before Hudson Valley sophomore guard Aric Kucel (Gloversville/Gloversville High School) was fouled on a three-point attempt and connected on all three free throws.
Herkimer was fouled on the ensuing inbounds play and made the second of two free throws to take an 89-87 lead. With one last chance to win the game, Hudson Valley's three-point attempt was good, but the basket was waved off because of a traveling violation.
Freshman forward Khylan Hunt (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) had a career high 30 points to lead Hudson Valley. He also compiled 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Kucel added 22 points and four assists.
Hudson Valley will visit Adirondack Community College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1.
