Morrisville State College (5-8/4-8 Region III) raced out to a 14-point halftime lead and held on to defeat Hudson Valley Community College, 74-60, in men's basketball action earlier today in Troy.
After trailing by as much as 21 points, 49-28, with 12:55 remaining in the contest, Hudson Valley (6-8/6-7 region III) went on a 15-1 run to pull within seven points, 50-43, with 9:08 remaining. However, the Mustangs scored the next 11 points to pull away for the win.
Freshman center Larry Tape (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse High School) had 15 points to lead Hudson Valley. Sophomore guard Tim Kindlon (Delmar/Bethlehem High School) contributed 13 points, and sophomore forward Bill Heslin (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley High School) added 10 points. Freshman guard Aric Kucel (Gloversville/Gloversville High School) finished with team highs eight rebounds and eight assists.
The Mustangs were led by Marcus Walcott (Hartford, CT/Weaver High School), who made nine of 10 shots from the free throw line and finished with 24 points.
Hudson Valley will travel to Schenectady County Community College on Tuesday, January 20. the game tips off at 7 p.m.
