The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's basketball teams open the 2003-04 season on Sunday, November 2 against Cayuga Community College in the McDonough Sports Complex. The women's game tips off at 1 p.m. with the men to follow at 3 p.m.
It's the 50th season of men's basketball at Hudson Valley. The Vikings have had 13 straight winning seasons, and have an all-time record of 781-498 (.611).
Head coach Vince Medici returns four players, including two starters from last year's 14-13 team. Sophomore center Bill Heslin (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley High School) averaged 8.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Tim Kindlon (Delmar/Bethlehem High School) contributed 8.0 points and 2.9 assists per contest. Also returning are sophomore forwards Antwan Gibson (Troy/Troy High School) and Bob Boughton (Glenmont/Bethlehem High School).
Colleen Ferris is entering her fifth season at the helm of the Hudson Valley women's basketball team, which has won at least 20 games in each of the last three seasons.
Two players return from last year's 20-10 team. Sophomore forward Latrice Cowart (Severn, MD/Meade High School) earned Second Team All-Mountain Valley Conference honors after averaging 12.7 points and 11.6 rebounds per game last season. Sophomore guard Lindsay Frament (Waterford/Catholic Central High School) contributed 2.3 points per game.
