Needing a win to become eligible for the NJCAA Region III tournament, the Hudson Valley Community College (14-11) men's basketball team rolled to a 98-52 win over Columbia-Greene Community College earlier tonight in Troy. With only one regular season game remaining, the win assures Hudson Valley of its 13th straight winning season.
Playing in his final regular season home game, sophomore guard Markael Brace (Albany/Albany High School) poured in 34 points and came away with five steals to lead the Vikings. It's the fifth time this season that Brace has scored over 30 points.
Hudson Valley put together a total team effort as all nine players on the roster dented the scorebook. Offensively, the Vikings shot 58.8 percent (40-for-68) from the floor, including 50 percent (9-for-18) from beyond the arc. On the defensive end, Hudson Valley hounded its opponent all night, blocking 11 shots and coming away with 19 steals.
The Vikings never trailed in the contest, rushing out to a 20-5 lead over the first five minutes. Hudson Valley continued to pile onto its lead with a 12-0 run in the first half and an 11-0 run midway through the second half.
Freshman guard Tim Kindlon (Delmar/Bethlehem High School) added 17 points for the Vikings while sophomore guard Josh Wysocki (Hoosick Falls/Hoosick Falls High School) chipped in with 11 points. Freshman forward Allan Dickson (Troy/Troy High School) contributed eight points and five blocks.
Freshman guard Carlton Guiden (Bronx/Wade Hampton High School) paced Columbia-Greene (13-16) with 18 points.
Hudson Valley will travel to Monroe Community College on Saturday, February 22 for a 3 p.m. contest.
