The Hudson Valley Community College (11-8) men's basketball team used a 19-4 run, over the final 10:28 of the game, to defeat Herkimer County Community College 60-43 earlier this afternoon in Troy.
Sophomore guard Markael Brace (Albany/Albany High School) finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and four steals to pace Hudson Valley. The inside tandem of freshman forward Allan Dickson (Troy/Troy High School) and sophomore center Bill Heslin (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley High School) contributed 10 points apiece.
Sophomore center Marcel Tirado (West Roxbury, MA) paced Herkimer (9-15) with 18 points while freshman guard Mike Flemming (Edison Tech) added 13 points.
Hudson Valley had its 33-22 halftime lead cut to two, 41-39, with 10:44 left in the game. However, the Vikings defense turned it up a notch and held the visiting Generals scoreless over the next eight minutes as they pulled away for the win.
Hudson Valley will host Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Thursday, February 6 at 7 p.m.
