The Hudson Valley Community College (4-4) men's basketball team dropped a 54-52 decision to visiting SUNY Cobleskill earlier tonight at the McDonough Complex.
Hudson Valley trailed by eight points, 51-43, with 5:15 remaining before going on a 9-2 run to bring them within a point, 53-52, with 1:41 left in the game. After both teams failed to score on their next possessions, Cobleskill freshman Prince Jackson (Schenectady/Schenectady High School) was fouled and made one of two free throw attempts to put the Fighting Tigers up by two, 54-52. Hudson Valley had a shot to tie the game but freshman forward Allan Dickson's (Troy/Troy High School) baseline shot rolled around the rim and out as time expired.
Despite playing only five minutes in the first half because of foul trouble, sophomore guard Markael Brace (Albany/Albany High School) led Hudson Valley with 18 points. Freshman guard Steven Smith (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahan High School) chipped in with eight points.
Sophomore Brandon Smith (East Orange, NJ/East Orange High school) poured in 18 points, including 14 points in the second half, to pace Cobleskill (6-4). Jackson also finished in double-figures scoring with 13 points.
