The men's and women's basketball teams at Hudson Valley Community College will hold a Media Day on Wednesday, October 31. Players and coaches will be available for interviews and photographs from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the gym at Hudson Valley's McDonough Sports Complex.
All 14 players on Hudson Valley's men's team hail from Section II high schools, and 11 of the 12 female basketball players at Hudson Valley attended a Section II high school.
Colleen Ferris is entering her third season as head coach of the women's basketball team at Hudson Valley. After a rough 1999-2000 debut, Ferris turned things around last season, leading the Lady Vikings to a 24-3 record and a No. 1 national ranking. Ferris earned NJCAA Division III Region III Coach of the Year honors and returning guard/forward Lindsey Bradt (Bishop Maginn), who averaged 18.3 points and seven rebounds per game in 2000-01, was tabbed NJCAA Division III Region III Player of the Year.
Men's head coach Vince Medici is entering his seventh season at Hudson Valley. In six years, he has posted a 115-57 record. He took the Vikings to the NJCAA Division III national tournament in 1999 and to the NJCAA Division III Region III title game each of the last three seasons. He has twice been named Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year. The Vikings were 22-7 last season.
